The artist Stephan Boffejon, originating from Nyon, maintains a passionate dialogue with his paintings. He is talking, scratching, clawing them, with an energetic brush. Sometimes he is treating them roughly with complicity, adding here and there a field of colour – gray, red, washed out blue, yellow, white or black, and playing superimpositions and transparencies in a breathless way.

However, by looking closer at the work, the painted surface is richly nuanced, with geometrical forms delicately underlined, allowing recurrent circular forms, suggesting elements belonging to the artist’s environment. He is dreaming in his studio and the surrounding objects like brushes, spatulas, knives, containers, colours, papers, hanging canvases, are used as instruments and materials. In deep search of equilibrium, suddenly satisfied, he goes as far as entitling one of his paintings “Successful”.

Painting is for Stephan Boffejon a daily struggle, a way of life, an ode of rebirth.
He has his own particular style. In front of the white canvas, it is an everlasting recommencement. He is totally invested in his work, searching truth in the profoundness of himself and in his surrounding, but also in the outside world, through a window in his studio, which brings him luminosity, life, and the changing effects of the light in the course of the day.
In his frenetic quest of communication, the artist privileges among all drawing on paper as a mean of expression, in which he is placing sober lines to the very place, enhanced with some touches of colours or, to the contrary, in an interrupted gesture, linking various and repeated motives.

Stephan Boffejon is a multifaceted artist. He is also sculptor. For his sculptures he is using solidified resins which are translated into massive or threadlike figures, certain as big as human size, of great originality, which some examples are included in the exhibition. An event rich in emotions and discoveries.

Stephan Boffejon, born in Nyon, lives and works in Cessy (France). He has an international reputation. He exhibits regularly in Switzerland and abroad, namely in Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Lyon, in group or individually. Since 1996 he is granted a few awards : gold medal at Contemporary Vision of European Works à Hong Kong (1997); silver medal at the Salon de Provence (1998); 2nd price at the Biennial in Lyon (2008). His works are included in international collections, in Europe, in the United State and in South America.
